Destination Overview

Essential background & heritage of Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve

Sri Lanka’s last primary tropical rainforest and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve boasting 95% endemic birds.

Sinharaja is a biodiversity gem of global importance. Blanketing steep virgin mountain ridges, this primeval rainforest is home to elusive leopards, purple-faced langurs, and giant green pit vipers. Over 95% of Sri Lanka’s endemic bird species can be spotted here, frequently moving in magnificent mixed feeding flocks led by the noisy orange-billed babbler and greater racket-tailed drongo.
