Belilena is a colossal rock shelter hidden in the rainforest above Kitulgala. Excavations by archaeological teams unearthed skeletal remains of the prehistoric "Balangoda Man" (Homo sapiens balangodensis) dating back 16,000 to 30,000 years, alongside geometric microlithic stone tools, bone points, and remains of game animals and salt crystals.
